A Look At The 2023 Circa Football Preview

For the past few years, the Circa Football Preview has become a must-attend for football fans across the country. VP Mike Palm brings in some of the top experts in the football field, analysts, former athletes, handicappers, oddsmakers and more, and they have a discussion about the Circa Contests and the upcoming NFL and college football season. Over the years, some top bets for the year have been unearthed at the panel.

Last year, the group consisted of Eric Eager of SumerSports (now part of the Carolina Panthers’ analytics division), Wes Reynolds and Mike Somich from VSiN, and Circa Sports risk manager Dylan Sullivan.

The group talked specifically about strategies for Circa Survivor and Circa Million. Some advice that was given out included avoiding divisional games, particularly early in the season, taking risks as the season progresses, and avoid rookie coaches.

While there was a lot of talk about the contests, there was also discussion about betting and the NFL season as a whole. With 20/20 vision, we can look back and see what our panelists got right and wrong.

Most Mispriced Team

There was some good, some bad when trying to identify the most mispriced team on the board for 2023. Eric Eager called out Green Bay as a team that was undervalued. He did say they could win the division, which turned out to be wrong, however, Green Bay did make it to the divisional round of the NFC playoffs.

Dylan Sullivan looked at the question another way. Chicago was a trendy team last year (sound familiar to this year?) and Dylan felt they were overrated. He said their offensive line was “garbage” and they wouldn’t come close to what some people believed. They ended up going 7-10.

Meanwhile, on the predictions that didn’t pan out as well, Wes Reynolds believed that Tennessee was underpriced to win the AFC South. The season got away from them quickly, and they finished 6-11. Mike Somich thought Seattle could win the division. While they finished 9-8, they didn’t come close to the division. He also mentioned that he didn’t believe in Brock Purdy as a great quarterback…Purdy finished fourth in MVP voting.

Most Likely “Unknown” QB To Play At MVP Level

The answer for this ended up being CJ Stroud, as he legitimately got MVP votes in his rookie campaign. However, none of the panelists ended up giving out his name. However, some of the names thrown out did end up playing at a higher level than expected. Mike Somich said Jordan Love could play at an MVP level. While he wasn’t quite there, he was rewarded with the largest contract in NFL history during the offseason. Both Eric Eager and Dylan Sullivan brought up rookie Anthony Richardson, who certainly flashed before his season-ending injury. Wes Reynolds went out on a limb and said Kenny Pickett…who only played about half the season and was shipped off to Philadelphia in the offseason.

Good Read On Philadelphia

The panel was asked about a good team from 2022 that could fall off. Wes Reynolds immediately brought up Philadelphia, pointing out their schedule and how much injury luck they had in 2022. While they ended up making the playoffs in 2023, they went out without winning a game in the postseason.
